Overview
Using regular household glass cleaners can permanently strip anti-reflective coatings and cause liquid seepage into bottom COF ribbons. Here is the technician-approved method.
Why Modern TV Screens Require Special Care
Old glass CRT televisions could handle harsh chemical sprays like Windex or Colin. However, modern 4K OLED, QLED, and Mini-LED screens are coated with ultra-sensitive microscopic anti-reflective polarizing layers.
Using ammonia, alcohol, acetone, or abrasive paper towels will chemically dissolve this anti-glare coating, leaving permanent cloudiness, rainbow streaks, and ruined contrast.
The Technician-Approved Cleaning Protocol
- Always Turn the TV Off and Let it Cool: Cleaning a warm display causes cleaning solutions to evaporate prematurely, leaving stubborn mineral residue.
- Use a High-Density Microfiber Cloth: Use a clean, dry, lint-free optical microfiber cloth (the type used for camera lenses) and wipe gently in circular or horizontal motions without pressing hard on the panel.
- For Stubborn Smudges (Distilled Water Only): Dampen a corner of the microfiber cloth with pure distilled water (never tap water, which contains mineral salts that scratch). Never spray directly onto the screen—always dampen the cloth first to prevent liquid from dripping into the bottom bezel.
